Multicultural Diversity in the Uk (Garduation Project)
It is my last year in the university so my graduation project has to be different and well representing who am I in a creative way. As there is a percentage of cultural diversity in UK by hearing from people directly about their stories of success is totally different than what what you see normally. Having 3 people from different countries representing themselves in a short film not only having them talking but also having representations for the work environment. Having people in different cities in the UK required me to film in different areas to get as much examples as possible. My film attached here with behind the scenes.
WONDERFEST Film Festival
In our last year we do a film festival, my role in the festival is being in the technical team. We created a website for the festival and we are still updating it until it is ready to be published. I did take the headshots for my colleagues to be added into the website so people know who will be in the festival. I rented the photography studio for 2 hours to get the headshots done for our film festivals. I attended meetings with my group in order to prepare for the festival and get it do with our best. Me and the technical team will finish the showreel for all our minor videos so that it is on our website and people know what they are going to watch in our festival this year. In this festival I will present my Egyptian dish "Koshari" video as my part in the festival. I wanted to do the showreel for this event because I really wanted to apply and practice my skills in the Adobe Premiere Pro to produce something special for the website and to start the event with it. People who are ging to attend the Film Festival will not know what will they watch until they see the showreel combining parts of our minor videos as year 3. It will be a great opportunity to meet new people coming to the festival in February and talk with them, get their feedback face to face and a chance for netwotrking with different people. I am looking forward for this film festival.
Minor Film my Third year
Egyptian Dish "Koshari"
People will hear the word "Koshari" but still they don't know what is it until the see it or you describe it for them. That really happened when I got random people in university and made them try that Egyptian dish that they never heard about. I decided that as I am Egyptian, why don't I use my filmmaking skills to make a video to teach people how to cook something new and get people to give their feedback. I did film the steps for cooking "Koshari" with my voice over and editing all done by myself. It was not that easy to be cooking, fixing lights, camera and recording sound at the same time. The editing process needed matching voice over, sound of people and triming un needed footage. It is only 3 minutes but took weeks to be finished with high quality, that was divided into weeks of pre-production,production and post-production. On weeks of production, I filmed 2 times the koshari cooking as it needs repetition to be better. Cooking koshari as an Egyptian is easy as it is very common cheap street food but for people who don't know it may feel a bit hard. So I simplified the process for people who never cooked it before. I enjoyed filmming this project as I loved how reflecting a culture could be through videos. I attached some behind the scenes with the final project.
COVID Awareness video
Student union at my university was looking for someone to film a video to to spread awareness about COVID on university campuses, so I volunteered to be the one taking the footage of people talking and giving advice. I booked equipments and filmed the video for the two girls talking about the same day. On the day of taking the footage we tried three different locations for filming : the library, infront of the university and in the canteen. When I choose the library as a location that was because in the script she said near library so I thought to be realistic that I film in the library and that went successfully. In the beginning I was afraid what if something stops working but after trials everything worked well which taught me that you always seek opportinities and learn from them. The video is now published on all university websites such as: Blackboard and Student Hub. It was great that I applied what I took on the morning lecture on the same day by filming that video attached.
Part time job
By the beginning of 2021-2022 academic year, I started working as a student ambassador for University of Cumbria on the days where they need students to introduce the new students to the university by giving them a tour around the campus to make them more familiar when they begin university. One important thing you learn is that you never answer something you are not sure of or don't know. In any situation you don't konw the answer, ask people in university who know more than you. I am still working on that part time as it is a good opportunity that I can focus on my studies and still study at the same time.
Volunteering Experiences
1. British Heart Foundation (2020-2021)
In my first year in the university, I wanted to enage more with the community. So, by volunteering in customer service department it helped me engage with people and what is happening in the market. I volunteered in the British Heart Foundation not only to get experience but also volunteering and helping could shape your personality as a first year student who did not sell or helped in customer service before. You learn how to deal with people from different age groups and help them. I enjoyed my time and added a lot to my personality even though it was not paid work but I was excited to go for volunteering and would spend a lot of hours. Helping customers and seeing them happy after they finish was very motivating.
The skills that I got was different from any other experiences as I have not been with people in the marketing area before. It taught me transferable skills between meeting customers and media. In media work I will have to engage with people and customers so that was a very richy experience. I volunteered for 1 year, but as I had to leave Carlisle I could not continue. This experience teached me firstly to work with people, help customers and even talking with volunteers and staff gives you different life experiences.

2.Egyptian Together Union 'Media Department'
In the beginning of 2021, I got the opportunity to volunteer as being part of the media and design team. I started with editing videos for that organisation. The first video I edited was what I created for the collaboration between The Egyptian Together Union and The British Science week. It took me sometime to get used to editing but it taught me new skills.
It was also new experience to be volunteering from home to be editing without sitting together as a team and decide what are you going to do in the next videos.
It taught me a lot as everything is virtual you have to deal with technical problems. Eventhough it is virtual but I learned new skills dealing with new people from different ages, it is a volunteering work experience but still very competative as everyone is trying their best to give the most professional outcome.
This volunteering experience motivated me to start learning and taking coursed on how to excel in Adobe Premiere Pro. This push to study more on Adobe Premiere helped me in my university courses.

Talks attended
1. Film organisations
I attended NFTV talks where it presents different student experiences and introduction to the organisation. That helped me a lot knowing a lot of different fields in the market and some master courses that would help you apply for.
Also annimation fields grabbed my attention and made me eager to know more about that field even if it is different it made me curious to know more.

2. Media related talks
I attended variety of university and external talks :
I learned many lessons some of talks were personal experiences. In one of the talks one most important thing was : expand your knowledge in different fields like Laura for example is specialised in Crime media coverage but still she tried production and many other things. So as a lesson: try as many things/fields as possible. This taught me to try searching for many different work experiences as possible even if not in media you still can learn and expand your knowledge. I applied to many different things weither editing or any volunteering. I would like to try production, directing or any other media cateigory and never stop and say I only want filming.

3. Volunteering talk
One of the first talks I attended in the university where it reflects on the importance of volunteering for students as it helps to gain experience in different ways such as enhancing CV, getting engaged with community, learn many skills even if it was unpaid. Volunteering helps establish many skills such as self confidence. It is very important as a start work experience where you as a university student have no experience but having a volunteering refrence on your CV will motivates anhy employer to recruit you.
Volunteering helped me a lot since as a year 1 student I really looked hard for work experience but as I am just a starter I have nothing on my CV so I can not apply for any thing.

Internships
1. Technology Internship with Bright Network
During lockdown (2020), I got the opportunity to attend the Technology Internship which started virtually because of COVID. It was new experience to get to attend talks about technology sponsored by large companies like Google, Vodafone and Amazon that lasted for three days and got the opportunity to do an assessment in addition to discussion with other trainees. This was good opportunity for networking by speaking with people from different fields. Virtually attending talks seems boring but the talks by Google were very interesting and engaging to get to know more about the company.
This internship made me engage with the market of technology and media. This internship was a push to get different opportunities with Bright Network.

2. Bright Network (Graduate Opportunities)
In 2021, Bright Network launched an online festival to introduce many career opportunities by different speakers. It was talks with different companies with
question and answer between us and employers. That included some workshops on how to do your CV and work code of conduct which was very helpful to know before entering the market of jobs. It did not limit to that but after that event I was emailed to be part of the focus group they do, but due to having many people I am waiting for the be from next focus group in London to get that opportunity as a I am Bright Network Member. I also got a certificate of attendance attached below.

Courses attened
In order to improve my skills I attended some courses on linkdin Learning:
1. Premiere Pro 2020 Essential Training
During year 2 vacation, I spent some time taking this course as I wanted to build my skills in editing and be ready for my graduation project.
It was a very valuable course that I attended for 8 hours with a lot of steps and instructions I did not learn before. In this editing course I learnt how to firstly arrange my assets in my project, Triming, basic audio editing, how to deal with graphics and titles, Effects, how to manage colours. One of the new things also was masking , you usually see it in videos but how you apply it in primiere was very interesting. When it came to the time of editing my minor project, I was really confident during editing also used the notes I wrote during the course helped me a lot during editing my minor project.

2. Learning Documentary Video: 1 Planning and Pre-production
I wanted to learn more about documentary and how to make it in steps. I found this course very informative on planning a documentary with a case study that made me connect. The tutor did the course with the documentary she produced so she discusses steps of planning with examples of her documentary. It influenced me on how to plan for a video by the way she organised how to set your idea. I am looking forward to continue Learning Documentary Video Course 2 to get the best knowledge in creating documentaries.

3. Writing a Compelling Blog Post
As an undergraduate, I need to know how to present myself in blogs or portfolios. First thing I learned is to be able to write fresh timely posts in order to grab readers attention. Second thing is to be consistent on what you say, also make sure your posts are engaging using images and videos. In addition, having your style makes you different, unique. Blogging about your work helps you to document what you did on time by writing a post everytime you do something new. Overall, this was a very short and to the point course which made it very clear.

Experimental Video "Traveller"
In my experimental video, I choose a realistic topic which was about a 20 year old girl had to travel domesticaly to the North East leaving many memories behind her. I decided to make it just simple to show her packing up with a voice over when she opened a box full of the things she love. When it is a real life experience, I feel I have the passion to do it as you know what happened you can act or talk confidently. It shows internal feelings of the girl and how she does not want to move to new place and prefers to stabilise in her house. Time for packing is the hardest as you have to get everything ready in certain period of time but also the actor had some time going through her old things and memories. But at the end she has to leave but with a smile that she will find different and new life.
Game show
'UnEarthed Cumbria'
As in second year we had to do a TV Show, in my group I was responsible for the light and sound. It was a show where we had 2 contestants and they played few games in the show. We turned a complete emtpy studio into an interview section, games section and place for asking questions. Using light completely changed the whole colour of the studio. For example, when contestants get the right answer the light changes to green and when they answer wrong a flash of red appears. Sound Effects helped during the show plus controlling sound levels when people Were talking in the studio. We spent three days during rehersals and on the fourth day we had our recorder ready for the game show with me listening to the speakers and matching light with actions done by people playing.

Short Film
'Agoraphobia'
In my second year in university, COVID situations were hard and as I was the cinematographer I must be filming on location. So I went to the location site but only able to take shot from outside of house we were filming in because of the rules. This project added to my experience in a way to get to communicate online and when it is time to do the project you all meet so you have everything planned before you apply.
I took some external shots for the video but internal shots were taken with my directions through video call with shot list that I sent to the director. Even though Covid affected us but still we managed to get the final short film.
I learnt a lot from that experience, that even though I was away as a cinematographer but video call managed the barrier of being not there because of COVID.
First Documentary
'Surgeon in Battlefield'
I wanted to document something which I think is very special from my grandfather who was a surgeon and helped treat injuries in wars "1956,1967 and 1973" and he discussed how he survived in such stressful situation. In the documentary he discribed how those hard days passed. The documentary was very basic as I was just starting university and used a camera, mic and a tripod just the editing was a bit hard but by time I got very used to Adobe Premiere Pro.
My documentary is in Arabic language but still I added the subtitles to be understood by different people. It was done in the beginning of university and I am proud of documenting something which is a personal experience and not everyone attended or been on those days. My grandfather passed away last year, and I am proud I got to document such a hero.

Photography Course (2018)
Here are some photos when I started my first photography course before joing the university.
In High School, I wanted to learn something new and creative so I applied for a photography course for 2 months as I had passion and insisted to buy a professional camera at that age of 16. It was a great opportunity to train on my camera and learn the basics of photography during this course.
In this course I knew the basics of the camera such as:Shutter speed, Aperture and ISO on different cases. Firstly, the basics of normal still photos, food photography, silhouette, nature, promotional and use of Macro lens.
My trainner did her Media Arts PHD in London and is very experienced, she did not only stick to the place of trainning but also took us for different places to try different shots for example in Restraunts beside training in studio. The course was not only limited to photography but also we took bases of Photoshop.
In the course we started with basic steps until we reached to high level in photography. Using photography studio for the first time was new but interesting and studio lights were not easy to use in the beginning until I got used by the end of the course.
As a part of it being a professional course we went through every aspect from basic camera settings, use of studio lighting, the opportunity to try several shots with different lenses and learning how to compose a photograph. The way you arrange objects to get a different unique shot was one of the best things I learnt in the course. One of the most important concept that I learnt in the course was the rule of thirds which made everything easier after that point and makes you check you are on the right way of taking any picture. After this course I knew that I would be more passionate if I enter media whether it is Photography or Filmmaking but camera was the common thing between photography and filmmaking and I am that was my start.
